DeWalt 8V Max Gyroscopic Screwdriver Countertop Unit

The DeWalt 8V Max Gyroscopic Screwdriver Countertop Unit was developed as a dynamic, live-demonstration showcase. The 8V Max is an innovative new tool that operates by detecting wrist motion, allowing variable speeds with concise control. Display units were produced for countertop placement at independent home improvement stores.

  • Objective
    • Encourage consumer interaction with the product. Introduce shoppers to the new gyroscopic technology. Educate shoppers on how to use the tool.
  • Design Research & Strategy
    • DeWalt’s brand identity was embodied in the industrial, durable look and feel of the design. While numerous options were considered to educate consumers, the final display incorporated bold graphics that showcased the new gyroscopic technology, and a sequentially lit LED system that demonstrated tool usage. Because the tool could be positioned in a straight or angled orientation, the ergonomics of the consumer/product relationship were closely considered when positioning the tool within the display. A cap and tether system deterred theft while enabling customers to easily pick up and use the product.
  • Shopper Engagement
    • The motion-activated 1-2-3 LED system aimed to attract shoppers to the display and educate them on how to use the tool. The appealing angle of the screwdriver invited consumers to pick up and use the tool.
